Watercolor, Egg Tempera Blend Power, Subtlety | Stan Miller
Stan Miller has an eye that’s equally fascinated by explosive drama and the quietest subtleties. In his watercolor and egg tempera paintings, he combines the excitement of powerful light sources and blazing highlights with passages of closely keyed color that are exquisitely judged.
His portraits are precisely observed, but they also transmit expressions and emotions that draw us into the personality and state of mind of the model. Meanwhile, his landscape compositions, for all their fullness of descriptive detail, still lead the viewer’s eye onward and away into unexplored, beguiling distances.
Several of Miller’s captivating watercolor landscapes can be seen in the gallery below. To learn more about Miller’s process, and to see more his work, check out the June 2014 issue of Watercolor Artist, available at northlightshop.com and on newsstands April 22.
