Charcoal (vine, soft and compressed, pencils)
Pastels (sticks, pencils, pan)
Erasers (hard and kneaded)
Brayers (soft)
Brushes (4-inch paddle, flats)

Razor blades
Water-soluble oil paint (black and a variety of colors)
Inks (Dawn uses Akua Intaglio Carbon Black Soy-Based Ink, Sumi)

This video was a rare treat! Dawn Emerson shares countless pointers for art making and working with pastels. Her demonstrations illustrated the innovative process â€” combining traditional methods with playful exploration to see what happens! Iâ€™ve watched this video twice today because it filled me with an excitement for playing while making art! She mentions that pile of supplies weâ€™ve accumulated over the years and hardly (if ever) touched â€” and using them in non-traditional ways for the pure pleasure of art making. I really feel this video taps into the true joy of making art.

This was fascinating, her movement and mark making really finds the spirit of her subject. The philosophy of responding to what is happening and finding the fun and pleasure in what you are doing , apply to any medium.
