He is an excellent teacher. I think he took more time to draw pictures and explain a lot of the color he uses.

Lian Quan Zhen's painting teaches about composition, form and color using intuitive painting with watercolor as well as detail. Using a primary color palette he shows us how to blend, drop and blow color to achieve the amazing effects that only watercolor can produce. This class is just fantastic!

Lian Quan Zhen, I enjoyed watching your video very much, I also have written a lot of notes for all of the information you share with us. Although there seems to be much detail in the painting you have broken it down for us and simplified the techniques. You also showed us a couple of exercises for us to practice negative painting with the water plants and rocks which is so helpful. You explain everything that you are doing ,why and how it affects the rest of the painting. Its so easy to understand and follow along, I love the way you "found" the little fishes to add to the water. I love this painting at first I didn't think much about painting frogs but was soon impressed by how you painted them. I will definitely be using these techniques for paintings I have planned. Thank you Lian

This video tutorial is really helpful in learning Lian Quan Zhen's approach to watercolor. He is generous with his knowledge and willing to show, in detail and close up, how he does what he does so that we can learn to do it ourselves. His commentary is clear, even with his charming accent, and he knows when to repeat instruction to emphasize important points. He is supportive of those of us who need encouragement, he has a sense of humor when mistakes are made that makes the lesson even more enjoyable, and we are left with real, practical knowledge of technique coupled with awareness of the use of serendipity so that we end up with the tools to make beautiful watercolors of our own. LQZ is a remarkable artist and a wonderful teacher. I'm very glad I discovered him and appreciate this opportunity to take these workshops online. My painting is much improved already, and I've only taken this one class so far. Thank you, LQZ :)
