Stephen Quiller | Runtime (35 mins)
In this sixth chapter of Stephen Quiller’s complete series, Watermedia Foundation for the Painter, Stephen focuses entirely on how to use casein. Casein, an opaque medium, is one of Stephen’s favorite mediums; he uses it in combination with acrylic and watercolor paint.
After a review of Stephen’s preferred casein hues, you’ll follow along to complete two quick pine tree painting demos—one on white paper to see the beautiful soft effects casein can achieve, and another on black paper to explore how opaque casein can be the perfect medium for negative painting. Then you’ll paint a building in the landscape from start to finish. Along the way Stephen teaches you casein painting techniques and properties. From translucent effects for underpainting, to bold opaque passages, you’ll enjoy the velvety quality of this painting medium alone or in combination with your favorite watermedia!
